Pot of Gold Basket

Recently my son’s hockey team was having a bowling fundraiser and all the parents had to come up with a gift basket that was going to be raffled off. In years past I have done a margarita basket and an ninja blender with a few different mixers and booze. No I’m not a big drinker, unless I’m with some of my nearest and dearest drinking friends.

So anyways I wanted to do something different, everybody has been doing the same old things, so after doing a lot of thinking I came up with “Pot of Gold” basket, nobody has ever done that so I was really excited about it and couldn’t wait to get started so here’s what I done.

I bought a planter pot for a couple of reason’s 1. I could not find a black pot at this time of year (if it was Halloween, no problem) 2. I like to get more than one use out of things, so I figured that the lucky winner (I was hoping it was going to be me, I’m sorry to say it was not) would be able to use it to plant some beautiful flowers.

I filled the bottom of the pot with plastic bags, I filled one bag with additional bags, tied a knot and placed it in the bottom. I would normally use an styrofoam filler but I forgot to buy one and I didn’t have time to go back to the store.

Covered the filler bag with plastic shred aka Easter grass. You really could use anything tissue paper or paper shred.

Fan the tickets out, than tape them together.

Push the skewers into bag ball to prop up my lottery tickets up, attached the tickets to the skewers with a  few pieces of tape on the back to keep the tickets from moving and add some Chocolate Gold coins.

Wrapped the basket up in Clear Cellophane Basket Bag, added some ribbon and a bow and my Pot of Gold was ready for the bidding war!

Ok it wasn’t a bidding war, because we sold tickets and then the tickets were then placed in a can that sat in front of the basket that you hoped to win, but I DID have a lot of tickets in my can, so I guess you can say there was a bidding war.

You really could make this basket for anything birthday, retirement, really anytime you want a unique gift.
