Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs

I have searched high and low to learn how to make perfect hard-boiled eggs with no luck, while most of the tips I found was everything I have heard before… add salt, add baking soda, started with cold water, boil on medium heat, bring to boil then cover and so on.

These tips seem to work for the most part, the eggs would peel well for the most part… as long as they were still warm 🙁

Well through trial and error I have learned how to make the perfect hard-boiled eggs, not only are they perfectly cooked and they are the easiest eggs to peel, the whole egg! No more losing half the egg when you peel them. These eggs peel perfectly when they are cold too, I don’t know about you but I like to keep my eggs in their shell until I’m ready to use them.

So let’s make the Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs 🙂

I always use large eggs (if you use medium or jumbo eggs you may want to adjust your cook time up or down by 1-2 mins)

  • First, use a large pot, fill the pot with water. DO NOT PUT THE EGGS IN YET!
  • Add salt or baking soda (about a tablespoon for about a gallon of water
  • Bring water to boil
  • Add eggs to the boiling water. I use a colander to lower the eggs into the boiling water. If the pot is not big enough you will end up dropping and breaking the eggs in the water 🙁
  • Once the eggs are lowered into the boiling water. Cover the pot with a lid that fits snuggly on the pot.
  • Turn off the heat and let the eggs sit on the stove, covered for 12 mins for large eggs
  • After the eggs have sat for 12 mins, drain the water and fill the pot with cold water, letting it overflow in the sink for a few mins to cool the eggs
  • When I’m ready to peel my eggs I tap all sides of the egg then peel under a slow stream of water. The water helps by getting under the shell making it easier to peel
  • But the real trick is placing cold eggs into the boiling water for easy perfect hard-boiled eggs

I recently ordered this little gem to make it easier to lower the eggs into the water without breaking them. I have other plans for this basket too… I can’t wait to steam veggies in it or clams
